Streaming Encoder
Looking to make your event online available? But not sure how to stream the video signal to the internet? We are happy to help. For this purpose you will be needing a special streaming encoder. This encoder transforms the video signal coming from the camera, laptop or videomixer to a useable protocol for providers such as, YouTube, FaceBoo, Twitch, Microsoft Teams or Zoom. For this, we offer the reliable BlackMagic Design Web Presenter HD. A stand alone encoder that is very versatile in use.
Using the Web Presenter HD
To make use of the Web Presenter HD, you will be needing a video signal of a camera, laptop or videomixer. This can be provided via SDI. The Web Presenter accepts resolutions from 720p 50Hz till 2160p 60Hz. The output of this streaming encoder can be anything between 720p 25 Hz till 1080p 60 Hz.
Basically you can use the BlackMagic Design Web Presenter HD in two ways. You can either connect the streaming encoder via the ethernet connection to a wired network. This connects the Web Presenter to the Internet. Via a laptop with a USB or connected via the same network, you can adjust essential features, such as; stream output, platform, server and key for the RTMP server. To go 'live' , a simple button 'on air' can be pressed.
There are also platforms that don't support the use of RTMP servers. For exaple; Microsoft Teams or Zoom. In that case you can use the Web Presenter HD differently. You will still be connecting the video signal via SDI. By connecting the Webpresenter via USB cable with a laptop, you are enabling the laptop to function as a virtual 'webcam'. In Microsoft Teams or Zoom you can select it as camera, after which you can select any video source as source for your online event. Good to know is that both the RTMP or USB method can be used simultaneously.
Monitoring
Information, something that makes the technicians happy during events. Especially when the event is broadcasted online. Monitoring is key. The new Web Presenter HD device is equipped with special monitor outputs. Either via HDMI or SDI screens can be connected so that a perfect overview is created for anything related to the livestream. Features such as status, bitrates, volume, data rate and cache fill can be displayed. Thus leaving nothing to chance, you are perfectly prepared to start your broadcast.
Internet
But what if the internet connection fails? That's a commonly asked question when organising a livestream or hybrid event. The service of the Internet provider is beyond everyone's control.
The BlackMagic Design Webpresenter HD is equipped with a nice little feature for this occasion. It's possible to connect your phone via a USB cable to the Web Presenter. In the unfortunate circumstance that you loose your internet connection, you can continue streaming via your mobile 4G or 5G connection. Easy as that!
